Total Shoulder Joint Replacement or Shoulder Hemiarthroplasty
Day 1
- Read operation note and define 1/ type of prosthesis
- 2/ state of rotator cuff 3/ ROM limitation / caution
- Cryocuff rest in polysling, analgesia
- Elbow, wrist and hand exercises
Day 2
- Commence phase I
- Explain rehab and importance of analgesia
Day 2 – 4
- Discharge
- Commence phase II if able, scapula setting
- Postural correction / neck mobility
- Reinforce analgesia and exercises
2 weeks
- Follow up shoulder clinic
- Wound check and stitch removal
- Progress exercises phase I and II and weight bearing to stimulate cuff teach early deltoid strengthening in supine position begin to wean sling at home
4-6/52
- Remove sling and x-ray at 6 weeks encourage functional use and independence
8-12/52
- Commence phase III / strengthening begins gradual strengthening through via therabands or free weights (cuff and deltoid)
3-6/12
- Review in clinic and ensure good progress aim for HBB to LSJ and HBH with elbow forward and elevation 100º
6-12/12
- X-ray should be able to actively elevate to 100º
